We are getting ready to launch a new, multi-faceted ministry for those dealing with addictions. First, we plan to have a monthly outreach event that would feature a testimony of someone whose life has been changed by the power of the Holy Spirit and the truth of the Word. These events could potentially include worship, refreshments, etc.
As people attend these events and express a desire for help, we would then match these individuals with a mentor, who would take responsibility for them. Men would be mentored by men, and women by women. The role of the mentor is to stay in contact with them, provide accountability and counsel, accompany them to Bible studies, answer questions, pray for them, and be a friend to them. We want to encourage those who need help to come to the Bible studies that already exist (as many as possible) because we believe God’s word is sufficient for every person. There are many opportunities throughout the week.
On Sundays after church, willing volunteers could prepare a meal for those who are involved in mentoring, providing the opportunity to discuss Sunday’s message, pray for each other, and encourage one another.
In addition, we are open to the idea of starting a home group specifically for those seeking help in this area.
Below are ways volunteers can be involved:
- Mentor
- Monthly Meeting Leader
- Childcare
- Safety/Security
- Snacks
- Coffee
- Music
- Greeter
- Information Table
- Clean Up after Meetings
- Substitute for Leaders (in case of illness, etc.)
- Preparing Sunday Meals
Note: We will prayerfully place volunteers in the appropriate positions, as the Lord leads.
